Representative situations

Discreet work. Real situations.

The work is private, so these examples are anonymized. They show the range of the relationship without turning confidential moments into case-study theater.

Across business, relationship, identity and life

The stated problem may not be the real one.

Details have been generalized to protect confidentiality. Results are contextual, not promises of future outcomes.

Capital & relationship

01

They came for capital. The real constraint was between them.

Situation
A founding couple believed the company needed an outside capital raise. Unresolved hurt and resentment were weakening trust, alignment and the energy available for the business.
Work
The relationship created room for honest acknowledgment, responsibility, forgiveness and a renewed way of working together.
Shift
Commercial momentum returned and new opportunities emerged. The outside capital they had believed necessary was ultimately no longer needed.

Board, home & founder

02

The board had lost trust. The communication problem extended beyond the board.

Situation
A founder-CEO came to EWA with a board relationship that had become openly adversarial. Similar communication breakdowns were affecting his marriage and his relationship with his co-founder.
Work
The work began at home by creating greater alignment with his wife. From there, the founder repaired communication with his co-founder and approached the board with greater clarity, accountability and openness.
Shift
The board relationship moved from hostility toward support. The board invested additional capital and supported the company's M&A process.

Freedom & operating design

03

He wanted to live differently. The company still needed too much of him.

Situation
A founder wanted greater freedom in how he lived and worked, but the business still relied heavily on his time, decisions and presence.
Work
The engagement began by defining the life he wanted, then mapped the operating changes needed across the team, systems, ownership and working rhythm.
Shift
A personal definition of freedom became a practical plan to strengthen the team, reduce founder-dependent hours and redesign how the business operates.

Capital, confidence & capability

04

The financing process also required a shift in belief.

Situation
A founder-CEO was preparing for an eight-figure capital raise while pressure and self-doubt were constraining how he showed up in the process.
Work
EWA supported the founder in strengthening his confidence, belief and ability to lead the raise, while remaining counsel to the founder rather than acting as the placement agent.
Shift
He completed the raise and later returned for support around a substantially larger round. The additional capital extended the company's life and created more time for its next chapter.

Identity & direction

05

The transaction was complete. The transition was not.

Situation
A founder had completed a successful transaction but remained unclear about identity, pace and what the next chapter should hold.
Work
The relationship created space to examine obligations, opportunity, family, faith and the desire to build again.
Shift
The next move was approached as a life and stewardship decision, not simply another deal.

Home & leadership

06

A business decision was also a family decision.

Situation
A meaningful opportunity would reshape time, place and responsibility at home. A purely commercial answer would have been incomplete.
Work
The conversation held ambition, relationship, stewardship and practical economics in the same frame.
Shift
The founder made the decision with fewer hidden tradeoffs and greater integrity across both worlds.

A private first step

Your situation does not need to resemble one of these.

The first conversation is for understanding what is happening, whether EWA is the right place to help and what the most useful next step may be.
